After 279 hours, the larva of the blowfly (Calliphora vicina) pupates. It will remain in this state until hatching into a flying adult, about 500 hours after being laid as an egg. |
After 85 hours the larva of the blowfly (Calliphora vicina) continues to metamo rphose. Forensic scientists are able to determine time of death of a victim by studying the larval stages of the blowfly. The blowfly is usually the first o n the scene of a death. The fly lays its eggs on the victim. |
